I definitely agree with the point that Ellen Shell is trying to put out. We as students should be challenged in our years as high school students. We should learn how to study hard and work hard to achieve not necessarily high grades but instead learn to master concepts. I think that she makes a very valid point when she says, "The GPA is a noisome construct, and misleading..." we as students see a high GPA as the biggest goal in high school. But the truth is that if we are babied through the years then we won't be prepared for college. By taking difficult courses and getting lower grades we can still learn more and also learn how to deal with adversity.
However, we as students have the conception a lot of the time that we should aim for high GPA's to get into prestigious schools. For many of us the only way to do that is get high grades in easy courses. But I think that we should follow Ellen's theory and learn more in difficult classes rather than not be challenged through high school.
